Senator-elect’s plans for Kwara North will amaze you

A Senator-elect to represent Kwara North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Abuja, Pharmacist Sodiq Umar has pledged to support and sponsor bills that will have direct positive impact on women, youth and the teeming farmers from his constituency.

Honourable Sodiq gave the pledge on Friday while addressing the electorate during an interactive session organised by the publisher of the Kwara Tabloid Magazine, Mr Tunde Bakare, for the newly elected Federal lawmakers from the state, held at Kwara hotel, Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The Senator-elect lamented that his constituency had been suffering neglect by the previous and outgoing governments in the state which he said has given birth to presence of poverty in the area.

He promised to address, comprehensively, the problems of poor education, poor health care delivery service and poor infrastructure which have become order of the day in Kwara North.

“I’m going to focus mainly on women and youth because they are the life center of the development” he pledged.

Sodiq, who is a renowned Pharmacist from Kaiama local government area of Kwara state, also promised to evolve programmes and projects that will add more value to farming system in the area, saying that his people from Kwara North are predominantly farmers.

According to him, right equipment and incentives will be provided for our farmers through effective collaboration with Nigerian government and foreign donors.

” Agriculture is another major sector that I will focus squarely. It is going to be my priority. Our farmers do not have the right equipment. Right now, they are farming but they are not getting the best results. I will ensure that they are provided with the right skills and correct seedlings. I will do everything possible to partner with government at all levels and also to attract donors from outside the country” the Senator-elect pledged.

This effort, according to him, would help farmers in the area to be able to farm effectively and efficiently, and bring about massive production of farm produces.

Speaking on interpersonal relationship with the electorate, Honourable Sodiq described accessibility, functional constituency office in all local government areas and regular conversation with people as potent tools for good representation.

He however commended the organiser of the interractive session, Mr Tunde Bakare for creating a forum for elected officers to interact with people, saying that the event shows that democracy is getting rooted in Kwara state.

In their separate comments, Senators-elect to represent Kwara Central and Kwara South, Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe and Architect Lola Ashiru respectively, pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them by kwarans through true good representation and lofty bills that will advance the course of growth and development in the state.

The organiser of the event, Mr Tunde Bakare, said the programme was organised for the newly elected federal lawmakers from Kwara to equip them with necessary requirements needed for an effective legislation that will be people oriented.

A former Federal lawmakers, Honourable Mashood Mustapha was the resource person on the occasion with lecture titled “Building Responsive,  Responsible and Accountable Representation”.

The event was attended by bigwigs from the fold Kwara All Progressives Congress (APC).
