The Convener of Renewed Pathfinder and a Chieftain of APC, Alh Abdulganiyu Hanafi has bared his thought on the recent approval granted by the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development under the leadership of Mr Festus Keyamo to the Canaanland, a private entity owned by Bishop David Oyedepo as unfortunate. He said this approval is highly insensitive to the current security threats ravaging the country.
In the recent past, we have been hearing all sorts of aerial violations of the Country .The Government has not convincingly denied all these alleged violations. A convincing denial can only be acceptable with the stoppage of terrorism in Nigeria, which has not abated.
It is therefore surprising that the Intelligence Community and other security agencies have not advised the National Security Adviser,Mall Nuhu Ribadu on this approval of the private airstrip. The security implication is greater than how it is being viewed as a developmental project considering our precarious situation today.
Whatever will create psychological, real and imaginary security threats to the citizens should be avoided.Very soon, competition for the construction of Airstrips will commence which will definitely pose security threats that our security agencies will find difficult to contain. We cannot wait before we speak against this as the country is facing a series of problem through smuggling of firearms, drug, banned medicaments etc. It will be unfortunate if in the next few years we start facing more security problems as private airstrips will dot Nigeria.
On this ground, with a deep sense of patriotism, I urge the government of President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the licence immediately until the problem of insecurity is reduced to the barest minimum. For the future, the government should factor in the problem of insecurity in its actions.
