As the authority of the University of Ilorin commences the 36th convocation ceremony, the Chief Imam of the University Central Mosque, Professor Nasir Abdulkareem has attributed the possibility of the University’s ongoing Convocation Ceremony to the favour of Allah.
Professor Abdulkareem made this known on Friday (October 15, 2021) during a special Jumu’ah Prayer as part of activities to kick start the institution’s 36th Convocation Ceremony.
Abdulkareem who is a Professor of Chemistry said the waves of Covid 19 pandemic has caused a lot of havoc to both human and material resources between last year and this year, and thanked Allah for giving the management, staff and students of the better by far institution ample opportunity to hold yet another conviction against all odds.
The Chief Imam whose sermon was tittled: “which of the favours of your Lord will you deny”, recalled that not everyone that withnessed the last year covid-19 pandemic was able to survive it, during which when business centers, schools, Churches Mosques and many more were forced to lockdown.
Abdulkareem who is the Director of General study also recounted on the numbers of achievement of the University within 35th convocation and the current one ( 36th).
According to him ” Although, a number of Universities lost their academic session due to national problem, Unilorin catches the calendar due to the sacrifices of the staff within these times frame,(35th and 36th) convocation, there were lots of happenings and one of such is that Unilorin quality services attracted one billion naira (Infrastructural grant), within these times frame, we sustained fist position as one the most preffered first choice institution among Nigerian universities, also within these times frame one of our own good Ambassadors was re-appointed as the head of JAMB, within these times frame, four of our qualify staff were appointed as Vice- chancellors of various Universities, scores of others as Provost of state and Federal Universities others into other positions.”
In an interview with the Unilorin FM crew, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin Professor Sulyman Age Abdul kareem who also joined the congregation to offer prayer to Allah, reeled off the University plans to restore the academic calendar to where it was before covid-19 pandemic broke out.
