Collapsed culvert cuts off communities in kwara

The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the state government to as a matter of urgency come to the rescue of the people of Oke-Oyi, Lanwa, Onikoko and other neighbouring communities in the area who have been cut off, following the collapsed Onikoko road culvert in Moro local government area of the state.

The Speaker of the House, Dr Ali Ahmad made the call on Tuesday during the plenary at the hollow chamber, saying that the earlier the government addresses this pressing issue the better for the dwellers of the affected areas.

The speaker’s appeal came to the fore in response to the Matter of General Public Importance raised by the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Mathew Okedare, representing Lanwa/Ejidongari constituency at the state House Assembly who brought the issue of the collapsed culvert to the notice of the lawmakers for urgent action and solution.

 

In his presentation, Honourable Okedare said the collapsed culvert has made the road impassable for the people and is affecting the socioeconomic development in the area.

 

According to him, journey that supposed to take his people 30 minutes now take over three hours, saying that the ugly development has made life very unbearable and precarious for the residents of the affected communities.
He solicited government’s urgent attention on the affected road through a palliative measure by away of grading the road and fixing the bridge.

 

He explained that the people of the area would remain ever greatful to the government if their current plight is being attended to without further delay.
