Women inclusiveness: Kwara Governor to bag NCWS award

The National Council of Women’s Societies (NCWS) is to confer the ‘He for She’ award on the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in recognition of his 65 per cent women inclusiveness in government.

The National President of NCWS, Dr Mrs Gloria Laraba Shoda (mni), disclosed this in Ilorin on Wednesday during the convention/inauguration of Kwara state branch of NCWS, held at African Peoples Hall, Onikanga street, G. R. A. Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

Dr Shoda hinted further that the council had also written Governor Abdulrazaq informing him officially of the plan to make him a honourary member of the NCWS.

The NCWS President said the governor’s 65 per cent Women inclusiveness in government has shown clearly that interest of women will be adequately protected under his administration.

She added that the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Olufolake AbdulRasaq would also be made the Matron of the Council in Kwara State.

The National President of the Council pledged steady support for any government that ensures women inclusiveness in governance and empowerment of women.

She urged women to give necessary support to AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq led administration.

Dr Shonda, therefore noted that the Council would always ensure constructive criticism of any government programme, saying that policies and programmes tailored towards improving the wellbeing of women, children and people with disability would be fully supported by the Council.

“When I heard that Governor Abdulrazaq gave 65 per cent to women, I was amazed and applauded the inclusion of increase number of women in his Governance and we have pencilled his excellency for NCWS honorary membership award of the council soonest. We will decorate him as ‘He for She of NCWS while his wife, Mr Olufolake Abdulrazaq, will be decorated as the matron of NCWS on the same day” Shoda said.

In her remarks, the Wife of the Kwara state governor, Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq who was represented at the occasion by the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Women Affairs, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Opeloyeru appreciated Kwara women for the positive role they played during the general election that produced her husband as the Governor of Kwara state.

While thanking the NCWS for the motherly roles at improving the well being of womenfolk, Mrs Abdulrazaq pledged consistent support to the council for greater achievements.

In her farewell speech, the outgoing President of the Kwara branch of NCWS, Hajia Barakat Atunse thanked God and members of the council for giving her the opportunity to serve humanity in that capacity.

Atunse who reeled off eight points achievements recorded during her tenure, pledged continuos selfless services to the council at all times for overall interest of the state and country at large.

In her acceptance speech, the conscensus Kwara branch President of the council, Hajia Zainab Audu thanked members for believing in her and promised to use her health and resources to drive the council in order to justify the confidence reposed on her by the members.

Other members of the new executives include, Hajia Amin Subuola as first Vice President; Mrs Alabi Felicia Olukemi as second Vice President; Hajia Umar Zainab as third Vice President; Hon. Kareem Mariam as the Secretary of the council.

Others are Hajia Ologuntere Nimota first Assistant Secretary; Hajia Rafat Bola Bello as second Assistant Secretary; Hajia Bawa Issa Rukayat as third Assistant Secretary; Hajia Tayo Ayegun as PRO; Hajia Sa’a Kamaldeen Also as first Assistant PRO; Mrs Gana Rebecca Adishetu; Mrs Adebayo RuthFunmilayo as Treasurer; Mrs Owolabi Rasheedat as Financial Secretary; Mrs Yusuf Afusat Olaitan as NewsLetter Editor; and Hajia Lawal Muinat Bola as Research Coordinator.
