The Kwara state Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has pledged to be fair and neutral to all political parties in the state in the cause of performing his professional duties, just as he commended the leadership of the Labour Party in the state for being peaceful in its political campaign.
Egbetokun made the pledge today in his office when he received the gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party in the state, Comrade Issa Aremu mni who led his campaign team on a courtesy visit to the police headquarters, Ilorin.
The commissioner whose first official assignment was the labour party’s courtesy visit, said he would provide a level playing ground to to all in the state.
Egbetokun disclosed that adequate provision had been made by the men and officers of Nigeria Police to ensure that the coming elections in Nigeria and Kwara in particular are credible and peaceful.
He explained that the primary function of the Nigeria Police is provision of adequate protection of lives and properties irrespective of status, race, religion and political differences.
The Commissioner also sounded a note of warning that the wrath of laws will be meted on those with criminal tendencies, who go about to commit heinous crimes against other fellow citizens.
He however commended the leadership of the Labour Party in the state for demonstrating high level of decorum and maturity in their campaign exercise, and urged other political parties in the country to take a cue from the peaceful conduct of labour party so as to collectively contribute towards having a violent free and credible election in Nigeria.
Earlier in his remarks, the labour party governorship candidate, Comrade Issa Aremu said the rationale behind his visit was to intimate the new commissioner of the lofty programmes and the campaign promises of the labour party 5-Ps agenda which revolve around People, Prosperity, Popular participation, Partnership and Peace.
Comrade Aremu who used the forum to congratulate the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar mni and the new Commissioner of Police in Kwara, CP Kayode Egbetokun over their appointment, saying that the appointment of the duo is very apt, worthwhile and a round peg in a round hole.
He said the labour party was formed in 2004 to provide a government with quality representation and to put in place a worker friendly government where priority attention will be given to massive job creation and the welfare of workers across board.
Aremu explained that comrade Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and Olusegun Mimiko had demonstrated the sterling qualities of labour party when both were governors of Edo and Ondo states respectively, adding that the duo made indelible marks in terms of execution of workers’ friendly programmes and projects as two-term governors in their respective state.
He said labour party is giving solidarity support to President Buhari for his re-election bid come February 16 presidential election in the country treasury.
Aremu stated further that the President Buhari’s workers’ friendly policy was demonstrated when he gave out several bail out funds to all governors across the federation irrespective of party affiliation.
While pledging to work hand in hand with Nigeria Police, Aremu said his administration as a Governor of kwara state, God willing, will not only support the police by reposition the police institution but also provide all necessary incentives that will aid productivity, efficiency and effectiveness in the Nigeria Police operations.
He said labour party is a law abiding political party driven by knowledgeable people who have special regards for rule of law, principle of equity and social justice, and expressed confidence in Nigeria police that they will bring their professional experience into bear to record a crisis free and credible polls that will be acceptable by all.
