With barely nine days (February 3, 2024) to the re-rerun election in some constituencies in Nasarawa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has solicited the support of the Nigerian Army for a credible, and crisis free election.l
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Shehu Wahab, made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Commanding Officer, 177 Brigade of Guards Battalion Headquarters, Keffi, Lt Col. Inuwa.
He said the visit was to seek the cooperation of the Army where necessary in the rerun election in selected polling units in Doma South and Keana State Constituencies as scheduled.
Wahab noted that it was in preparation for a credible exercise that the electoral body visited the armed forces.
He added that the team had also held a series of meetings with stakeholders, key agencies and institutions in the state towards the success of the poll.
Receiving the INEC delegation, the commanding officer promised to sensitize his men to play in accordance with the rules and code of conduct for security personnel on election duty
This medium reports that the rerun election will hold in a few polling units.
While the election in Doma South will hold in one polling unit, that of Keana Constituency will take place in five polling units.
It would be recalled that Appeal Court, had in its judgements in some States including Nasarawa, nullified elections and ordered INEC to conduct rerun in two constituencies with a view to determining the winners that will represent the two constituencies in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
