…as Kwara govt seeks media support for family planning
Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina El-Imam has called on Nigerian media to join hands with the government and private organisations in a bid to collectively raise more awareness on importance of Family planning and its benefits to the society.
Dr El-Imam made the call on Wednesday (February 14, 2024) while speaking at the opening of the three-day training on Media Advocacy for Family planning in kwara state organised by Development Communications Network (DevComs) and TCI holding at G-Pinnacle Suite, along pipeline Road, Ilorin, the state capital.
The Commissioner who was represented at the occasion by the Reproductive Health Coordinator, State Ministry of Health, Dr Ibrahim Kafaya Kofo, commended the DevComs Network &TCI for their commitment towards preventing maternal mortality, unintended pregnancy and other related issues through creation of awareness and sensitisation on family planning.
The Commissioner also appreciated media practitioners for playing pivotal roles towards ensuring increasing awareness for family planning in kwara state and beyond.
She pledged that the state government under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq would leave no stone unturned to prevent maternal mortality, promising that the government would continue to mobilise adequate support for seamless awareness and sensitisation on family planning.
Earlier in his address, the Media Engagement Trainer for Development Communications Network (DEVCOMS), Lagos, Mr. Mayowa Adeniran, explained that the three-day training was aimed at equipping journalists with necessary information on Family planning.
Mr Adeniran added that the workshop would afford the participants (journalists) the ample opportunity to become family planning advocate through their reportage on the family planning.
Also speaking, the state family planning Coordinator, Alhaja Bilikis Ibrahim spoke extensively on the importance of Family planning to all women of Reproductive age of 15 to 49 years as well as myths and misconceptions associated with the use of family planning.
Also speaking on the Family Planning and its benefits to men and women of productive age at the training include Dr Adewale Adefila and some health personnel from the state Ministry of Health.
