Abdulraheem Maryam
Abdulraheem Maryam of Almawrid International College, Ilorin, has emerged winner in the Senior Secondary School category of the “MMGIVIT Initiative” 2024 Pre-Finals Poetry competition, held at Smabirm International School, G. R. A Ilorin, kwara state capital, Nigeria.
Maryam scored 74 points to clinch the first position in the competition that was keenly contested while Adetoba Tomisin of St. Joseph Secondary School came second with 71 points and Williams Omotola Joanna of Unilorin Secondary School went home with 3rd position for scoring 70 points, the trio from senior secondary school category.
Similarly, Oni Subomi of St. Joseph Secondary School Ilorin took the first position in the Junior Secondary School category with 71.5 points while

Okoyeocha Onyinche also of St. Joseph came second with 71 points just as Sheriffdeen Fathia Ayoola of Government Day Secondary School Sango took the 3rd position with 69 points
About 40 contestants from both Junior and senior categories locked horns and keenly jostled for the next stage of the competition, as 10 contenstants from each category made it to the final satge that is coming up in January, 2024 where prizes will be presented to the winners.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of MMGIVIT Initiative, Professor Ibrahim Kayode Adam, described poetry competition as an integral part of the MMGIVIT Initiative annual programme, adding that programmes such as career development session, free health service, redistribution of items among others are parts of the MMGIVIT annual programme.
Prof Adam hinted that the initiative was founded by late Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN of blessed memory about eight years ago, and prayed Allah to grant him Aljanat Firdaus.
The Coordinator General of the initiative, Dr Saeedat Aliyu appreciated all participating schools for their attendance and disclosd that the competition was designed to promote reading culture and more importantly to encourage people to develop positive attitude towards act of charity.
This year’s edition of the competition was titled “Charity begins at home”
