A foremost traditional ruler in Osun State, the Eburu of Iba, Oba (Prof) Adekunle Adeogun Okunoye Oyedeji ll has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to continue with the good works he has started since his assumption of office as the Governor of the state.
Oba Okunoye who is the Vice- Chairman, Osun State Council of Obas and the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Network of Kings from Osun Countryside enjoined Governor Adeleke not to relent in his good works.
The monarch who is also the founder of the Centre for Rural Affairs and Community Development called on the government of Senator Adeleke to continue with the good work he has started since he was elected by majority of Osun voters in July 2022 as affirmed by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Iba, the traditional ruler reassured the Governor that his developmental agenda shall be fully supported by him and his people.
Also, he promised to always provide necessary advice for the Governor and his government as one of the foremost traditional rulers in the state.
He reminded the governor that the traditional rulers irrespective of their personal interests are not politicians but integral parts of the state government.
“Tradittional rulers must support good government policies and programmes. Also, we are to offer constructive criticism through the established channel when necessary,” he said.
He further advised the Governor to find systemic way to engage the royal fathers to the full benefit of Osun people, saying that many traditional rulers are highly qualified world class professionals that are available to volunteer their expertise in service of their people.
The Eburu of Iba also took the opportunity of the supreme court affirmation to advise politicians to serve people and learn from past experience.
He said “in another few months, people again will evaluate and assess their performance and speak with their votes. The era of complacency in politics and taking people for granted is gradually going. Government should serve people and be responsive, accountable and responsible.”
He appealed to the Governor to restore local government administration in the state.
His words “despite many great things done by the immediate past government, the absolute taking over of the local government’s projects and programmes by state governments affected rural communities negatively.
“No meaningful developmental project was done in Iba and there was always complain of lack of funds. The transparency with which Governor Adeleke started his government should continue and people should be provided with timely information about government business.
“The money of the people should be used for the people in a transparent way as we begin to witness in the last six month. The trust people repose in him should not be betrayed,” he added.
