MMGIVIT organises poetry competition for Kwara Students

As Nigeria grapples with the challenges of insecurity and poverty, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), MMGIVIT has lend a hand towards curbing the menace in the country.

Towards this end, MMGIVIT, a charity organisation, on Thursday in Ilorin, held its annual poetry competition for secondary schools in Kwara State.

Themed: “Charity as a panacea to poverty and insecurity in Nigeria”, participants from various schools through poems, bemoaned the protracted insecurity and ravaging poverty in the Nigerian society, noting that charity is the tool to fight hydra-headed social ills in the country.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the occasion , Professor Kayode Ibrahim Adam, who said the poverty indices in Nigeria is alarming, stressed the need to intensify acts of charity for the country to be secured from social ills.

According to him, the 2022 edition of the competition was aimed at exploring the talents and potentials of the younger ones and encourage to them to appreciate the essence of charity.

10 secondary schools in Ilorin participated in the keenly contested competition, which featured both junior and senior categories.

Participants performed to the delight of audience at the well attended event held at the African People’s Hall, GRA Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

At the end of the competition, Thomas Miracle of Chapel Secondary School came first while Michael Oshinaya of His Grace Secondary School and Mercy Kolawole of St. Joseph Centenary Catholic College took second and third positions respectively, for the.

For the Senior category, Sanya Oluwatimileyin of Mollys School won first position while Abdulrasheed Fathia of Bishop Smith Memorial College and Yusuf Faridah of Muslim Model Secondary School were the first and second runner-up respectively.

Prizes were also given for the best poem, which was clinched by Abubakar Amirah of Al mawid Secondary School while the Best stage performance went to Woli Farida of Muslim Model Secondary School.

The NGO had earlier organised an education and career counseling programme for secondary school students with the aim of helping them make well informed decisions about their future for personal fulfilment and socio-economic development of the country.o


MMGIVIT is an initiative of Professor Muhammed Mustapaha Akanbi SAN, the current Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Malete.

MMGIVIT Charity Initiative week is an annual event which features free health service, education programmes and redistribution of wealth through distribution of items to the less privileged in the society, among others.

This year’s programme is the sixth edition of MMGIVIT Charity Initiative week
