The Governing Council, Director-General, Management and staff of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS) on Thursday (September 30, 2921) prayed for a united Nigeria as part of the Institute’s activities to mark Nigerian 61st Independence anniversary.
The prayer sessions held simultaneously at the Institute’s Mosque and Chapel, observed by Muslims and Christians faithfuls respectively.
In an Independence message to Muslims at the Mosque, an Ilorin based Islamic Scholar, Ustaz Suleiman Kasandubu, admonished Nigerians to see themselves as one single entity and urged them to collectively move the nation forward through mutual relationships irrespective of religion, political and ethnic differences.
Shaikh Kasandubu explained that the insecurity and other social and economic challenges that are ravaging the country would become things of the past if all and sundry are ready to live together as brothers and one big family.
The cleric who took his text from Surah Al-i-‘Imran (Quran 3 verse 103) enjoined Muslims to hold fast to unity as commanded by Allah.
He urged Nigerians to recognize God’s favour in their lives, and be united in the heart, adding that unity in individuals can be translated to unity in a nation.
Similarly, speaking on the topic, “Unity: the Master Key to Unlimited Progress”, Pastor Samuel Ijeh charged Christians to embrace oneness because, according to him, “any kingdom, country or people that are not united is permitted to fall.” Taking his text from Luke 11:17, the man of God prayed for a more united Nigeria where there will be peace and progress, adding that, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” he observed.
In his remark the Director General said the Institute had lined up a number of activities to complement Federal Government anniversary program with a public lecture on Conversation on Nation- Building: Labour perspective.
The two prayer sessions pulled crown as all staff of the institute and invited guests were in attendance.
