A call has gone to personnel in charge of hospitals and health centres in Kwara State to make effective use of the health facilities supported by Global Fund Projects to achieve the set objectives.
Kwara State Coordinator of Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Mr Femi Olatunbosun, made the call at Bode Saadu, the headquarters of Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State while speaking during the advocacy visit to the council.
The team was also in Oke-Oyi, the headquarters of Ilorin East, Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun, Owu Isin, the headquarters of Isin and Bode Saadu, the headquarters of Moro for the advocacy visit to get the feedback on Global Fund support facilities.
The team which embarked on advocacy visit included ACOMIN state coordinator, Mr Femi Olatunbosun, ACOMIN State Program Officer, Folake Iseyemi, Alhaja Nimat Labaika, Mrs Tosin Apiriola Ajayi and Mallam Mashood Zarumi Esq.
ACOMIN is working on accountability and advocacy in 13 states including Kwara and five LGAs being covered by ACOMIN are Ilorin East, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin and Moro.
Olatunbosun said that the global fund projects were designed to eradicate malaria in the country.
He mentioned free distribution of mosquito net and drugs as some of the facilities provided through Global Fund site projects.
He emphasized the need for officers in charge of health centres to ensure effective use of Global Fund facilities.
He said that the advocacy programme was to inspect the facilities being supported by Global Fund with a view to accessing the successes and challenges.
He added that the objectives of the advocacy programme was to
assure quality of services, generate real time objective information, assess quality and quantity of service
delivery, assess community utilization of commodities and advocate for increased resource allocation for
malaria intervention.
In her remark, the ACOMIN State Program Officer, Mrs Folake Iseyemi said that ACOMIN was working in 5 selected LGAs in each of the 13 Global Fund Malaria Focal States, wherein the sub recipients being Malaria Consortium (MC), Management Sciences for Health (MSH) and
Society for Family Health (SFH) were implemented the diverse components of the project.
Speaking during visit, the officer in charge of Basic Health Centre, Bode Saadu, Mr Abdulrazaq Iyaomo noted with pleasure that Global fund projects had really assisted in eradication of malaria.
He added that people of Bode Saadu and other neighbouring communities were making good use of Global fund facilities.
He said that mosquito nets and drugs were still available at the health.
Also speaking when the team visited Oke-Oyi, the headquarters of Ilorin East Local Government, the Head of Department Health, Hajia Rianat Ajibola Suleiman appreciated the Global Fund support project.
She said that due to increase in the number of patients in some of the Global Fund support facilities, there was the need for the provision of more Rapid Diagnostic Test (RBT).
In their remarks, HOD Health in Isin, Mrs Omotosho Marry and Deputy HOD Health, Irepodun, Mrs Olarewaju Felicia appreciated Global Fund support facilities in their areas.
