Over 250 INEC staff under suspension, Professor Raji

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended over 250 of its staff across the country and placed them under trial for committing various degrees of electoral offences.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ekiti State, Professor Abdulganiyu Olayinka Raji disclosed this on Friday in his comment during the INEC preelection sensitization forum for the media drawn from South West, South East and South South zones of the country including media houses from Kwara state, held at Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.

The Ekiti REC disclosed that INEC authority will follow their cases to a logical conclusion to serve as deterrent to others who might be thinking of compromising with some members of political parties before,during or even after the forthcoming elections.

He explained that the Commission under the chairmanship of Professor Mahamood Yakubu would leave no stone unturned to conduct the freest, credible and fraud free elections.

Raji added that INEC had mapped out various strategies to checkmate and correct every abnormality that may hamper the smooth running of electoral process in the country.

Speaking on whether PVC could be cloned by hackers, Raji said it will be extremely difficult for any hacker to hack the card.

He promised the members of the pen profession in Nigeria of the INEC’s commitment to safeguard journalists and other critical stakeholders during the forthcoming general elections.
