A head of the 7th Kwara Sports Festival holding late January this year, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hajjia Arinola Lawal on Friday (January 3, 2020) visited Kwara College of Education, Ilorin to access the level of Water situation in the institution.
Recalled that the Main Organising Committee (MOC), for the proposed Festival yesterday, visited the Commissioner in her office along Zulugambari road, to seek the corporation of the Ministry in the area of water supply to the Athletes.
Speaking at the visit, the commissioner explained that the reason for her visit was to ascertain the area in which the Ministry can led a hand in terms of provision of water when the competition commences.
The Commissioner, according to a statement signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Olalekan Issa-Onilu, assured the Provost that all machineries would be put in place to ensure water is available every where
She however, described sports as one of the important factors that promote love and unity among the people saying the Ministry would do everything possible to support the development of sports in the state.
Responding, the Provost of the Kwara State College of Education Ilorin, Professor Abdulraheem Yusuf, welcomed the Commissioner and commended her for her proactive response.
The Provost recalled that, the issue of Water situation in the institution before now is nothing to write home about urged the present Commissioner for Water Resources, Hajjia Arinola Lawal, not to put hand on deck to ensure water is provided for the populace.
The Provost furthered that, when the situation remain unchanged before the advent of the Present Administration, the institution need to embarked on the Private partnership and it was unanimousely agreed in the digging of borehole to solved the problem of water scarcity in the institution.
According to him, ” As I’m talking to you now, we have about sixty borehole in the premises which have been serving all our staff and students of the institution “.
The General Manager of the Kwara Water Corporation, Engr. Shehu Umar, who was in company of the commissioner assured the Management of Institution of better treatment in term of adequate Water supply.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner was led to some of the ongoing new hostel project and the renovation of theold one in the institutions.
