….As league of Imams set to make Quranic memorization compulsory in school curicculum in kwara
Proprietors and handlers of Arabic and Islamic Schools in kwara state have been advised to make memorization of the glorious Qurian a compulsory and integral part of their school curriculum.
The Imam Gambari of Ilorin, Sheikh Sulaiman AbdulAzeez gave the advice on Saturday (June1st, 2019) in Ilorin while speaking at a closing ceremony of the Quranic Competition organised by Balogun Gambari Youth Movement (BAGYUM) held at Awodi area, Ilorin.
Imam AbdulAzeez who stressed the importance of the Quranic memorization in the sight of Allah, pledged that the league of Imams in Ilorin Emirate will not rest on it’s oars to ensure that Ilorin Emirate return back to pure Islamic heritage that it used to be known for.
He added that no effort will be speared by all the critical stakeholders in the state to ensure that memorization of the glorious Qurian becomes a common phenomenon among Muslim youth and adults, especially the school age children.
The Imam Gambari who acknowledged that Ilorin Emirate was known for deep Islamic knowledge and full understanding of the glorious Quran in the past, promised that the religious leaders in the state will cross the t and dot the i to return the Emirate back fully to it’s common heritage.
He expressed regret that the emergence of the civilization paralysed Islamic education in in Ilorin but thanked God that people are now showing more interest in the study and memorization of the glorious Qurian.
The cleric advised parents to intensify efforts in making sure that Islamic and Western education of their children are given utmost prirory.
In his address, the president of BAGYUM, Mr Sulaiman Olayinka Sakariyah had earlier appealed to the Council of Ullamahu in Ilorin Emirate to as a matter of priority revamp the introduction of Quranic memorization as a compulsory subject in all Islamic schools in the state.
Sakariyah said the BAGYUM Quranic Competition was organised, as part of the association’s educational programmes to encourage memorization of the holy Quran among the children.
He explained that the idea was to catch them young, and appealed to the council of Ullamahu in the state to act fast on the matter.
The President disclosed further that the forum’s annual educational programme has been consistently sponsored by former Chief Librarian of the Kwata State Polytechnic, Mrs Abosede Caroline for the past six years, saying that though the donor is a Christian, she has passion for the development of children’s education.
He called on other well meaning Muslims from the Emirate and beyond to join hands with BAGYUM in it’s efforts to catch the children young and bequeath them with sound and qualitative education.
Out of 14 participants at the competition, AbdulRaheem Ahmad, from Ibagun ward area of Ilorin East local government,
came first, while Faatiha AbdulAfeez and AbdulAfeez Muhseen took the second and third positions respectively.
The winners of the first and second positions went home with one standing fan each and other gift items while remaining 12 participants were also presented with consolation prizes such as the glorious Qurian, electric pot, electric kettle, big warmer, set of stainless plates, clothing materials, blood tonic among others.
The immediate past President of the association, Mallam Mukaila Garba Sefura said the gifts items presented to the participants were donated to the association by various individuals, family members and corporate orgaineations just as he prayed God to replenish their purse.
