Meet Professor Katibi, Dean Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Ilorin

Professor Katibi Ibraheem Adeola is a Professor of Medicine and the current Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Ilorin.

Prof Katibi graduated from Ahmadu Bello University medical school with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree. He was also awarded the degree of Masters in Business Administration and Management (MBA) of the University of Ilorin in 1998.

He subsequently obtained a Doctorate degree from the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom, after which he attended University of Kwazulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa for further education in Medical Research and Ethics.

This great son of Ilorin,who was born to the notable Katibi family of Okekura along Pakata Road in the heart of Ilorin, is also a recipient of the prestigious Fellowship on Ethics on global medical research of the Harvard University, Boston, United States.

He underwent postgraduate residency training of both the National and West African Postgraduate Medical Colleges at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) and University College hospital, Ibadan leading to the conferment of the Fellowship award of the West African College of Physicians.

He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and Fellow of the International Society for the Epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Prof Katibi joined the services of the University of Ilorin as Lecturer I in 1999 and had since risen through the ranks to become a Professor of Medicine in 2011. He is an Honorary Consultant Physician/Cardiologist to UITH where he was formerly chairman of the Research and Ethics Committee.

He once served as the Head, Department of Medicine, University of Ilorin and University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Currently, he is the Research Manager for the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Ilorin and Chairman, Board of survey for the University.
He was appointed an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow in University of Glasgow, UK in 2003.

Prof Katibi was formerly the National Treasurer of the Nigerian Medical Association in 2000 and was on her National Executive Council for well over a decade.

Professor Ibraheem Katibi has equally attended various training programmes across the globe few among them are: 2nd King Abdulaziz Cardiac Centre Heart Failure Preceptorship program. Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia inOct 2017; Fourth Annual Nigerian Cardiovascular symposium organised by Cardiovascular Education Foundation. Victoria Crown Plaza Hotel, Lagos and UCH, Ibadan in September 2017; Harvard University EIGHR Fellowship to attend workshop on ethical issues in global health research: maximizing protections and minimizing obstacles. Boston, November 2012.

Prof Katibi has won several grants/awards/Fellowships with which he has pioneered the establishment of the first electronic database of normal electrocardiogram in any Black African population worldwide.

Notable among these are Commonwealth University academic staff Fellowship, World Heart Federation Fellowship, University of Ilorin and University of Glasgow research grants.

Professor Karibi’s administrative experience and service to the community include but not limited to the following; Editorial board member, International Journal of Life Sciences, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical research.

(www.ilorin.org) 1990-1991 & 2004-2006; Chairman, NMA Committee on NHIS, Kwara state 2005 till date; Ag Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Ilorin 2015. 2016; Acting Head of Department, University of Ilorin, 2009-2010; Chairmanship, University of Ilorin Quranic Memorization; Chairman, Endowment/Joint venture subcommittee, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, 2008-2010; member, National Executive Council, Nigerian Medical Association, 1997-2006 and more.

He has published extensively in local and international peer-refereed journals. He was formerly on the editorial board of Nigerian Medical Journal and Nigerian Journal of Medicine aside from being a peer reviewer to about 10 local and international journals.

This unassuming scholar of international repute is a deeply religious man who,at present,is the Chairman,University of Ilorin Muslim Comminity.

Prof.Katibi is also a profound community developer, a vocation that must have accounted for his well-deserved appointment as the pioneer Wazirin Likita of Ilorin,which literally means the Head of all Medical Practionners of Ilorin Emirate.

He is happily married and blessed with  children.
