….As 9 aspirants withdraw
A Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Muhammed Sha’aba Lafiagi and a member representing Asa/Ilorin West Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Barrister Razaq Atunwa have remained the only two contenders that are currently locking horns in the ongoing kwara PDP governoship primary.
This follows a voluntary withdrawal of the nine aspirants from the race, leaving the two members of the National Assembly on the race.
Those that have withdrawn from the race are Dr Ali Ahmad, Alhaji Saka Isau (SAN), Alhaji Ladi Hassan, Ibrahim Ajia, Mal Bolaji Abdullahi, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, Hon. Ahman Pategi and Senator Abubakar Sulaiman.
The contest is now a straight fight between House of Representatives member, Barr. Razak Atunwa from Kwara Central and Senator Sha’aba Lafiagi from Kwara north.
The aspirants announced their withdrawal from the race at the ongoing primary election holding at Banquet hall, Ilorin.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed who disclosed that the 8 aspirants withdrew from the race because of the party’s interest thanked them for their act of magnanimity.
The governor also thanked the state’s political leader, Dr Bukola Saraki for his wise counseling and purposeful leadership which have kept members of the PDP united in the state.
At the time of filing this report, voting has ended and the counting of ballot papers in ongoing.
