The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the possibility of assenting to the Electoral Bill in order not to take Nigerians back to the inglorious days.
Dr Ahmad made the apoeal on Tuesday in the floor of the state Assembly while welcoming his colleagues back to the hallow chamber of the House for plenary after about five weeks of holidays.
The lawmaker said Mr President’s decline to assent to the Electoral Bill is capable of stifling the elections processes come 2019 general elections.
The Kwara speaker said the amendment has legalised the use of Card Readers in all elections in Nigeria among other benefits.
“The decline of assent is therefore like throwing away the baby with the bathwater and taking us back to the inglorious days Professor Maurice Iwu’s era.
“Nigerians should be wary of the implications of this development especially as we approach the 2019 elections to be conducted under the supervision of an APC-appointed INEC” Ali added.
He used the forum to appreciate members of PDP in the state for demonstrating sense of understanding and maturity in handling party affairs especially at this period when the party is warming up for its congress, hoping and praying that the events before, during and after the outing would further cement their unity and sincerity of purpose in their quest to take Kwara State to greater heights.
