Not less than 500 horse riders will participate at the forthcoming Emirate Durbar celebration scheduled to hold on 22nd of August, 2018 in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
The Chairman of the 2018 Ilorin Emirate Grand Durbar Committee, Engineer Sulyman Yahaya Alapansanpa disclosed this on Friday (August 17, 2018) in Ilorin during a press conference as part of activities to intimate the public about the event.
Alapansanpa who led other members of the committee including the secretary of the committee, Dr Ibraheem Jawondo of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, said all was set to organise a befitting Durbar ceremony Under the tutelage of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari.
The Chairman disclosed that the Emir, alongside with other dignitaries and horse riders will ride horses from the palace to General Hospital roundabout and enroute upper Taiwo and proceeded down to lower Taiwo and back to the palace through Emir road.
He explained that the rationale behind the ceremony was to further showcase the lofty and rich culture of the emirate and to serve as a meeting point for all the sons and daughters of the emirate, home and abroad.
Alapansanpa disclosed that the aim of organizing the Ilorin Emirate Grand Durbar was to discourage the penetration of foreign culture in to the psyche and consciousness of the current and unborn generations of the emirate.
The committee chairman confirmed that adequate security has been put in place for effective crowd control, assuring that the event promises to be very interesting and rewarding.
