We have Polished you, Let Your Torch light the World, Unilorin VC Counsels new Graduands

The Vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulwahab Egbewole has charged the new graduating students of the University to guide and light the world with their torch, noting that they are no longer the way they were admitted into the university.

Professor Abdulwahab said this at the University of Ilorin 39th Convocation Ceremony held at the school auditorium in Ilorin on 22nd October, 2024.

The Vice-chancellor noted that the university has provided students with an enabling environment through coping strategies to adapt to change and now with the skills they have acquired they are to guide and light the world.

“Today, I equally and deliberately chose to address you in the subject of allowing your torch guide and light the world”

“As echoed in the university anthem this morning, I hope that you will do a deep reflection of the huge investments on you by your parents and institution and make sure that the expectations is not dashed”.

Professor Egbewole tell the graduating students to emulate Professor Oloyede, a proud alumnus of the university who graduated in flying colours with first class degree in Arabic and has brought honours, goodwill and as well as attracting positive traffics to this institution on countless occasions.

“He is certainly not the only one. We have numerous alumna and alumnus, such as Former Vice-chancellor of University of Abuja, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’allah; former DG, NYSC, Major General Johnson Olawumi; Mrs Sarah Slade whose performance as Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria is till date being celebrated. We also have the Comptroller General of Immigration, and many more doing in various spheres of life.

“Very recently, we inaugurated Unilorin advocates made up of distinguished alumni (the likes of Seun Okinbaloye, Femi Adebayo, Lukman Shobowale and a host of others) doing exploits and breaking new grounds within and outside the shore of Nigeria”.

“I look forward to all of you to join the list of exceptional alumni of this great University who in no distant time from now will start making positive waves and shaping the nation in the right direction”, he said.

The professor of law also charged the graduands to imbibe the qualities of two great men Leonardo da Vinci and Hugo Junkers who are often describes as the smartest and the most amazing persons to have ever lived because of their innovation and invention that have helped and still helping humanity.

According to him, combining being smart with being amazing person will make the graduands’ light to guide the world.

Professor Egbewole said the new graduands are now the Unilorin brand and latest product because they have gone through the process and the ideal things to do is to return to the process to produce products of higher dimension, that is the essence of life, they should live to make other live, add value and create impact.

He enjoin them to take time to reflect and meditate carefully on their actions/inactions by continuously improve and present to themselves their development plan, compete to celebrate their wins but then, track their progress to see how far and how much they have covered.
