By Modibbo Faysal Ahmed

The Kwara State government has assured that it places high premium on developing the state into a model that would be second to none.

This, it said, is being achieved through various developmental projects and programmes in line with the ‘Ise Nlo’ mantra upon which the present administration is anchored.

The state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Afees Abolore Alabi, gave the assurance in Ilorin today (March 8, 2023) while speaking at the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS)-inspired Colloquium in appreciation and recognition of performance of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in the education sector.

The Herald reports that the Senate Council of NAKSS convened the programme held at the Banquet Hall, opposite Government House, Ilorin during which the state government formally handed over two Sienna Buses to both NAKSS and the state chapter of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

At the event, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education informed that the effort of the state government towards the welfare of students of the state origin is immeasurable in view of numerous programmes it has undertaken to better their lives.

He stated that scholarship and bursary award as well as free transportation for indigent students in various tertiary institutions are part of the programmes designed to mitigate the adverse effects of the economy on them.

Alabi added that the state government is not unaware of the meagre resources at its disposal but continued to accord other sectors of governance critical attention required.

“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is a golden fish and a man with many coat of arms, who has contributed immensely not only to the students’ constituency but to other sectors of the state that had improved on the quality of lives for all and sundry in the face of available meagre resources for Kwara State government.

“The untiring effort of the Governor towards the students’ constituency is immeasurable. This is evident in the numerous programmes and activities as approved by the Governor, judging from governance which is one the tenets of our democracy.

“This administration under our amiable Governor places high premium on developing the state to a model, which will be second to none through its programmes and in line with ‘Ise Nlo’ mantra and to ensure that procedures are followed as stipulated by the law of the land”, the commissioner said.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Communications, Abubakar Sidiq Buhari, stated that the election of Governor AbdulRazaq in 2019 was a masterstroke that changed the narrative in the education sector, urging the people of the state to reciprocate the gesture.

In his remarks, NAKSS Senate President,
Hassan Muhammed Hawal, said the education had experienced significant improvement since the advent of Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration with paradigm shift in the literacy level of the state, adding that students in the state public schools now compete favourably with their counterparts anywhere in the world.

Hawal, who recalled that many state owned tertiary institutions were shutdown due to unpaid salaries of lecturers and non-accreditation of courses, said the present administration provided funding for the process leading to reopening of schools for academic activities.

The NAKSS senate president said students of the state origin are proud of the achievements of the Governor in the education sector, pledging their support for his government.

“Today, education system of our dear state has experienced significant improvement under the leadership of our public faithful servant, a man of creativity, innovation and quite intelligent, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Facts and figures are in places and spaces for cross evaluation and justifiable reasons. It is so safe to say that our amiable governor is a visionary leader whose eyes is widely opened to the necessities of educational growth and development across the sixteen local government areas of the state

“Since he assumed office as the governor of Kwara State, his laudable achievements in education sector are beyond what one can hurriedly scribble in a little space. Through thick and thin, he has traversed through the wilderness to ensure quality and quantitative education delivery from Primary to Tertiary level.

“And we converge here today to show our appreciation and recognition of your efforts and its impact on students and our dear association. To begin with is students’ bursary increment, which has been observed in figures from five thousand to Ten Thousand Naira. This is a sincere gesture that demands for due appreciation.

“Palliative materials and ameliorative measures aimed at easing students burden cannot go out of sight. Provision of free transport scheme for indigenous students’ schooling in Northern Nigeria”, the NAKSS Senate President said.
