The former President of the Court of Appeal and pioneer Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practice and other related offenses Commission (ICPC), Justice Mustapha Akanbi (rtd) has called on Nigerian youth to explore the derivable opportunities in the Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Justice Akanbi who is the founder and Chairman of the Mustapha Akanbi Foundation (MAF), also described ICT as a potent solution to societal development, job creation, and self sufficient.
Akanbi made the call at the weekend during the graduation ceremony of 26 youth who underwent free computer training exercise organised by the Mustapha Akanbi Foundation Youth Forum Computer Center in collaboration with ‘Halal Computer Training Institute and Information Studies’ held at Kemberi Compound, Awodi area of Ilorin, the kwara state capital.
Justice Akanbi who spoke through Dr. Usman Akanbi at the function advised Nigerian youth to as a matter of priority key into the current trend of technology to avail themselves the ample opportunity the ICT offers the world.
He explained that education without computer literate is incomplete, saying that the dimension and direction of the globalization has made computer knowledge a must to have by all and sundry to keep fit in the scheme of things.
Akanbi stated further that the role of ICT in the present day society is enormous and profound, adding that the enormity of computer knowledge in today’s education informed his decision to establish a free computer center in the interest of the younger generation and the posterity.
In his speech at the ceremony, the acting Chairman of the Mustapha Akanbi Youth Forum (MAYF), Mallam Shuaib Oladimeji Jimoh said MAYF is a Non Governmental youth Organisation in Kwara state that is saddled with the responsibility of evolving programmes and projects that have direct positive impact on the lives of the youth in the state.
Jimoh explained that free computer training is one out of the numerous youth oriented programmes being embarked upon by the forum under the directive and supervision of the Honourable Justice Mustapha Akanbi, the Wakili of Ilorin.
While disclosing that all the computer sets and other accessories being used for the training are purchased by Justice Akanbi, the acting Chairman of the forum also informed that another set of the trainees are expected to resume later this month as forms to that effect are already out for interested candidates.
He therefore advised the 26 graduands who are pioneer set of the center not to see their three months computer training as enough but to take a step further and strive to learn the advance training to make them stand out and become experts in ICT world.
Also speaking on the occasion, the coordinator of Halal Computer Training Institute and Information Studies, Mr. Sulaiman Akorede Saheed said his institute has been partnering with various groups and agencies in the state on ICT training and advised parents to develop mental positive attitude towards the acquisition of computer knowledge for their children, stressing that the world is now tilting towards ICT.
While congratulating the new graduands for the successful completion of their three months training, Saheed also encouraged them to consolidate on what they have learnt by taking a step to learn computer engineering, pointing out that doing so will be an added advantage for them.
Earlier in his address, one of the course instructors, Mr. Ibraheem Ahmed congratulated the graduands and described them as very obedient, attentive and brilliant students who according to him have passion for the course under training.
Responding on behalf of the graduands, Bello Habeeb Agboola thanked the organisers of the training for the opportunity given to them, saying that the three months training exercise has actually given them a window opportunity in to the ICT world.
