The Acting Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh has commended the Kwara State Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing free transportation service for both staff and students of the institution, from Malete to Ilorin, as the University proceeds on the election break.
Prof. Jimoh, in a special message to the KWASU community on Wednesday (February 22, 2022), described the Governor’s intervention as timely and supportive.
The KWASU boss said the gesture has no doubt gone a long way in cushioning the effect of scarcity of naira notes occasioned by the recent naira swap policy.
“I must sincerely, on behalf of the entire Management, appreciate the timely kind gesture of the Kwara State Government under the able leadership of our amiable Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for easing the burden of both staff and students with the introduction of free transportation scheme. The gesture has gone a long way in lessening the burden of our students in commuting from Malete to Ilorin while travelling home for the election break, ” he said.
Prof. Jimoh, however, called on Nigerians to exercise their civic responsibility during the elections in a peaceful manner and refrain from any act capable of truncating the democratic process of the country.
“The forthcoming elections represent another landmark in the history of our dear nation and as such, all hands must be on deck to support the peaceful conduct of the elections by obeying all the laws and refraining from inciting violence or intolerance before, during, and after the elections.”
“As responsible citizens, we must continue to contribute our quota to the advancement of our neighbourhood, local government, state, and nation as a whole by carrying out our civic duties diligently and patriotically.”
“While I join millions of Nigerians to pray for free, fair, and credible elections, I ask that we all work towards protecting the continued existence of our dear nation by shunning all acts capable of disrupting the peace. I am assured that both staff and students of Kwara State University will represent their institution with pride in the various locations they may be and they will not be found engaging in acts that would tarnish the image of the University or bring the unity of our society into question”.
“I urge you all to exercise your civic rights peacefully just as I also urge you all to be safe,” the Ag. VC added.
The Vice Chancellor, who wished the students of peaceful and harmonious election break, reminded them that the Harmattan semester examinations would start immediately after the break and urged them to study well in order to excel in their examinations.
“To my dear students in particular, remember that the Harmattan semester examinations will commence after the election break. Do make use of this opportunity to study more and excel. “
“I look forward to seeing you all back on campus for the commencement of the Harmattan semester examinations, which will signal the conclusion of the first half of the 2022/2023 academic session,” the Ag. Vice Cnancellor said.
