Gov AbdulRazaq Commissions KWASU Osi Campus, Fulfills 16-Year-Old Dream

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State on Wednesday (January 8, 2025) commissioned the Osi campus of Kwara State University (KWASU), just as the event marked a significant landmark in the history of KWASU and Kwara State.

Located in Osi, Ekiti Local Government Area, the satellite campus was completed 16 years after the institution’s establishment. Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized that the campus’s state-of-the-art infrastructure aligns with his government’s agenda to make Kwara State a hub for academic excellence and innovation.

“The campus’s lecture theaters, laboratories, studios, and serene learning environment demonstrate our commitment to sustainable development and social inclusion,” he said.

The governor noted that the campus will stimulate economic growth by fostering human capital development and creating opportunities for youths. He urged the university’s management, staff, and students to utilize the excellent facilities to become world-class professionals.

Commissioner for Tertiary Education Dr. Mary Ronke Arinde praised the project, saying it brings tertiary education closer to the people and provides access to quality education and skills for the state’s youths.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh thanked Governor Abdulrazaq for his efforts, stating that the commissioning fulfilled a 16-year-old dream.

“The commissioning of this campus is a significant milestone for KWASU and for education in the state as a whole. By expanding our university’s footprint, we are not only increasing access to quality education but also enriching the academic landscape of Kwara State. This campus will undoubtedly add immense value to our institution by fostering innovation, research, and learning in a conducive environment designed for excellence.

“Beyond the confines of the University, the socio-economic impact of this campus on the host community of Osi cannot be overstated. The presence of this university will create jobs, stimulate local businesses, and provide opportunities for community development. We envision this campus evolving into a vibrant hub that will improve the lives of the people and deepen the connection between the university and the community.

“I must express my profound appreciation to His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (CON), the Governor of Kwara State, for his steadfast support of Kwara State University. Your commitment to education has been truly remarkable. This project and the Ilesha Baruba Campus are evidence of your dedication to the advancement of higher education in our state. I am delighted to inform this gathering that all arrangements have been concluded for the relocation of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Science to the Ilesha Baruba Campus. This will undoubtedly enhance the visibility of the University” the VC remarked.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including state executive council members, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and community members.
