Ex-UNILORIN Radio GM, Abdulganiyu Durodola, dies

The former General Manager of Unilorin FM 89.3, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Durodola Akanbi, has passed away.

He died on Thursday after a brief illness and has since been buried according to Islamic rites. His fidau prayer will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. at his house in Tanke.

He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Abdulganiyu Durodola Akanbi was born in Saki Town at Awayewaserere’s compound, Isale Efi, Saki West Local Government. He attended Local Authority Primary School, Isale Taba, and proceeded to Local Authority Modern School in Saki. He furthered his education at King’s College in Lagos.

He briefly worked at the postal agency (Post Office) before traveling to the U.S. in 1969, where he studied at Kennedy-King College, earning an Associate in Applied Science in Radio and Television in 1976.

He then proceeded to Loyola University of Chicago, where he studied Communication Arts in 1980. Upon returning to Nigeria the same year, he served at NTA Ilorin and was eventually employed as a staff member.

In 1989, he attended Television College in Jos. He retired in the 1990s but later served as the station manager of the University of Ilorin Radio between 2011 and 2018.

Abdulganiyu Durodola Akanbi will be remembered for his contributions to the broadcasting field and his dedicated service.
