Group lauds Gov AbdulRasaq’s commitment to conduct LG elections in Kwara

A group known as AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq Support Group (AASG) in Kwara State has extended its heartfelt appreciation to the Kwara State Governor, the Chairman of Nigeria Governor’s Forum, Mall. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON for his unwavering commitment to sustain democracy as demonstrated through the announcement and the readiness to conduct the Local Government Area Council Elections in the State.

Following the announcement by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) regarding the forthcoming Council Election scheduled for September 21, 2024, across all 16 Local Government Areas, it is evident that this decision aligns with the collective desires of the people of Kwara, underscoring Governor AbdulRazaq’s responsiveness to the people’s wishes and  aspirations.

In the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness, KWASIEC must conduct its activities in strict adherence to the law, thereby allowing all political parties to adequately prepare and participate. By doing so, we can ensure that this election stands as a testament to integrity and credibility, setting a benchmark for future electoral processes in the state.

Moreover, as the current administration places a premium on gender equality and women’s participation in governance, AASG  encourages our esteemed Women in politics  to seize this opportunity to actively engage in the electoral process by contesting for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions at the grassroots level.

To all aspirants, we urge a commitment to peaceful and issue-based campaigns, devoid of any form of violence or undue influence. Let your agenda and programmes resonate with the needs of the people, demonstrating your capability to effect positive change at the grassroots level.

As we approach this crucial election, it is incumbent upon all stakeholders, most especially party leaders to desist from moneybags politics and uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and transparency. By fostering an environment free from electoral malpractices, we can safeguard the integrity of our democratic institutions and pave the way for a brighter future for all citizens of Kwara State.

The party flag bears in the coming local government elections should not be determined based on the highest bidder. Political leaders at various local governments are advised not to see the nomination processes as money making ventures. Let us collectively reject any attempts to undermine the peaceful electoral process and hold our aspiring leaders accountable for their actions. In doing so, we reaffirm our commitment to building a society founded on the principles of good governance and ethical leadership, ensuring a legacy of success and development for generations to come.

Lastly, let’s remember that a system led by corrupt leaders cannot expect to produce the best leadership and good governance. Now, let’s nurture a new system of excellence by producing the crop of leaders that we desire with competency to lead.

Good leadership makes great success, development and a legacy sustainable.

Let’s choose wisely.

Signed:

Hon. Abdullahi AbdulRauph AbdulSalam

Administrative Secretary
