The management and staff of the Harmony Transport Services Limited also known as Kwara Express, were on Thursday (March 14, 2024) thrown in to a joyous moment when the Kwara State University (KWASU) Center for Sustanable Energy Technical team visited their office for possible conversion of their grounded vehicles to electrical vehicles.
The KWASU team, which was led by the Ag. Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, was in Kwara Express premises at the instance of the executive governor, of the state, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
It would be recalled that the Governor Abdulrazaq was at the Kwara Express last week, and the visit necessitated the invitation of KWASU Center for Sustainable Energy by the Governor to convert most of the Kwara Express’s grounded gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles for optimal performance.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shaykh Luqman Jimoh gave assurance that his institution possesses technical know-how to do the conversion seamlessly, adding that one of the vehicles that conveyed his team to Kwara Express is another electric vehicle just converted by the center.
The GMD/ CFO of Kwara Harmony Holdings, Mrs Mojirola Afolayan expressed delight over the development and commended the Governor for coming to their aid, saying that it would serve as a tremendous relief for them.
The Acting General Manager of the Kwara Express, Engr Yusuf Abubakar, who took the team round the premises, described the Governor’s decision as a good step in a right direction.
The Director of KWASU Center for Sustainable Energy, Dr Adesina Lambe was confident that the job will be done as soon as all necessary arrangements are completed between the government and the institution.
The Head of Technical Unit of the center, Engr Azeez Akande disclosed that electric vehicle doesn’t need fuel, very easy to maintain and saves unnecessary costs unlike the gasoline vehicle that has a lot of components.
He explained that electric vehicle can be fully charged under two hours and it can conver 150 kilometers distancr and above on a single charge, pointing out that it doesn’t need to be fully charged before putting it on the road, saying that it can be charged by electric, generator or solar power.
He pledged that once all necessary accessories are in place, a vehicle will be converted under 48 hours.
Also accompanied the Vice Chancellor included the University Registrar Dr Mrs Kikelomo W. Sallee, the University Librarian Prof Abdulsalam Abiodun Salman, one of the governor’s aides Alhaji Abdulrazaq Jidda among other KWASU team members.
