Indigenes of Ilorin Emirate living at home and in diaspora have again been urged to always support the developmental initiatives of the community’s umbrella sociocultural organisations, Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU).

This appeal was made on Monday (February 26, 2024) by the National President of the Union, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, when he paid the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Production Services, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, a courtesy call in his office in Abuja.

According to a statement singed by union national scribe, Mr Abubakar Imam, and made available to the Highprofile, the IEDPU President explained that the strength of the Union is always determined by the support of the people of the community, particularly those who are in the positions of authority.

Alhaji Abdulmalik, who thanked Senator Mustapha, for his numerous support to the Union over the years, enjoined the lawmaker to continue to offer the good people of Ilorin Emirate quality representation at the upper legislative house.

The community leader encouraged Mallam Mustapha to work towards the realisation of the takeoff of the approved Federal College of Education, Afon and the resumption of full hajj operations at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin.

Alhaji Abdulmalik also urged Senator Mustapha, who is also the Turaki of Ilorin, not to relent in his support to the Union towards the completion of its ongoing projects; particularly as prices of building materials are continuously on the rise.

The President told Senator Mustapha that the Union was determined to reduce youth restiveness in Ilorin and its environs as he explained that its Skills Acquisition Centre, which is about to be completed, is one of the means designed to achieve the aim.

He also assured the Senator that the Union is working round the clock with other stakeholders towards reducing crimes and criminality within and around its jurisdiction.

Responding, Senator Mustapha expressed his delight at the visit of IEDPU, saying that the visit would certainly spur him to work harder for the people of Ilorin Emirate who elected him to represent them at the Senate.

Senator Mustapha assured the IEDPU President that he had taken up the issue of the Airport with relevant authorities and noted that the State Government too was working hard on the same issue. He then promised to do everything possible to ensure the takeoff of the Federal College of Education, Afon as well as working towards facilitating other developmental projects for his senatorial district in particular and the State in general.

On the Union’s ongoing projects, Senator Mustapha assured IEDPU that he would soon make his financial support available to the Union.

Mallam Mustapha, however, appealed to the Union to work with other stakeholders towards ensuring that Muslim clerics operating within and around Ilorin Emirate concentrated their efforts on peace building and unity.

The President was accompanied on the visit by the Union’s National Vice President, Alhaji AbdulRauf Babatunde Issa and the Union’s Chief Imam, Shaykh Murtala Nurudeen Alaaya, among others.
