KWSG Reopens Adewole Ultamodern Market

…warns  marketers to be law abiding

The Kwara State Government has ordered the reopening of Adewole Ultramodern market, Ilorin, after normalcy has returned to the market.


The State Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Ibrahim Akaje, who affirmed this while addressing the marketers, sympathized with them on the loss of life and property during the crisis. 


Akaje stated that the state government and other stakeholders have been on top of the situation since Saturday “working earnestly to bring peace to the market after the initial tension and opportunist attacks by hoodlums on marketers”.


He charged the marketers to be law abiding and form synergy that will bring lasting solutions to the security matters and other related issues in the market.


The Commissioner, in a statement signed by the  Press Secretary of the Ministry,  Taibat Baba Adams and made available to the public,  said that existing rules and regulations that govern the establishment of market operations in the state must be adhered to by the marketers and other stakeholders. 


According to him,  Adewole Ultra Modern Market will now operate  from 6 O’clock in the morning and close at  6 O’clock in the evening daily, adding that other measures include  re-registration of shop owners and identification of market users, maintain peace and orderliness, eradication of street trading and erection  of structures in front of  existing shops, among others.


He  advised the marketers to maintain peace and orderliness and trade within themselves without any traces of ethnic or religion barriers.


The Commissioner commended the effort of the Chairman, House Committee on Business and Enterprises; Hon. AbdulKareem Paku and the various security agencies for their prompt support from the beginning of the crisis. 


The Babaloja General, Kwara State, Alhaji Abdullahi Sa’ad, Iyaloja Mandate Market, Alhaja Funmi Babakobi and all the executive members of Kwara State Marketers Association appreciated the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his timely support and restoration of peace and harmony in the Adewole Ultramodern market.


They also thanked the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Ibrahim Akaje and his team for coming to their rescue.


Present at the event were: the Chairman, House Committee on Business and Enterprises, Hon. AbdulKareem Paku, the Director, Commerce, MBIT; Mr. Taiwo Adebisi, the Deputy Director, Commerce; Alhaji Ibrahim Sanni, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps and others.
