The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara State on Saturday (February 4, 2023) successfully conducted mock accreditation exercise across the three Senatorial districts of the state, as part of preparations for the General Elections starting from February 25th, 2023.
Speaking during the monitoring exercise of the mock accreditation that took place in six local government areas of kwara state vis-a-vis Irepodun, Ekiti, Asa, Ilorin West, Moro and Patigi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Mallam Garba Madami expressed satisfaction that the exercise was a huge success.
Madami disclosed that the exercise was meant to test-run the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), an electronic device designed to read Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and authenticate voter’s fingerprints ahead of the presidential election coming up in the next 21 days.
He said there was no malfunctioning of the BVAS machines in all the units across the state, saying that the machines were very fast at screening voters.
Madami was confident that the BVAS device will work perfectly during the geneeal elections, with assurance that the Commission was fully ready to carry out the Presidential election in the next few weeks
The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is an electronic device designed to read Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and authenticate voters using the voters’ fingerprints in order to prove that they are eligible to vote at a particular polling unit.
The turnout of voters across the three Senatorial District of the state was moderately encouraging and the accreditation exercise were seamlessly fast and encouraging
