For Tanke Ilorin residents, life is more nasty in the past few days and it is certainly inching towards being short and brutish as governance at the Federal, State , local government and at the ward levels is moribund.
For the dignity of the life of citizens in that corner of Nigeria to improve, the Councillor, State House of Representatives member, Federal House of representatives member, the Senator , the Minister in charge of Power, the one in charge of transportation and the Minister of Petroleum resources and the state government must all hasten to save their fellow citizens whom they should be representing.
For more than three days, most parts of Tanke have been in complete black-out as a result of power outage which has not been explained to residents whose life seem to be further assaulted by the non completion of fly over before the resumption of academic activities at the University of Ilorin, as earlier promissd by the state government.
This evening, Wednesday January11 2023, at around half past 5 pm, Highprofile approached a fuel station named Bravo at the Oke – Odo end of the Tanke road to purchase fuel but a young man who claimed to be the Station Manager said there was no fuel while an older man who appeared to be the real manager sat disinterested with two commercial motorcycle riders chatting, and pressing his mobile phone. Highprofile then asked the youngman sbout when they took delivery of fuel which they sold earlier in the day and he replied that it was yesterday (Tuesday)
The crew then put it to the young man that they could not have dispensed all the fuel to buyers and he replied that the order from above is for them to sell only between 10 am and 12 noon daily.
As soon as Highprofile returned to its vehicle, the young man at Bravo started selling fuel and we returned to the station only for him to ironically say “ko s’epo” , there is no fuel, repeatedly, like a prayer mantra, while simultaneously dispensing fuel at exactly 5:44 p.m. We later got to know that he and his team earned a bribe of 1000 naira from every customer buying as little as five litres of pms.
A similar situation played out yesterday at Munirat filling station at Tanke, which is notorious for exploiting the absence of the Department of Petroleum Resources in the Kwara State capital, as Munirat seldom sells fuel when there is no scarcity.
When Highprofile got to the station at around 8.pm yesterday, the crew met the dispensing machines and lights on, while dozens of customers milled around and about half a dozen cars queued. A house wife who wanted to buy fuel for her electricity geneator told Highprofile that the station refused to sell or close for the day on the excuse that customers shoved their staff.
Meanwhile, motorcyclists at the Awolowo end of Tanke road also complained of exorbitant extortion by Policemen from the F- Division attached to the Pipeline junction of Tanke, while they particularly accused a certain officer David and his colleagues of feeding fat on their misfortune whenever their bikes break down along by extorting amounts ranging from 2000 naira to 20,000 naira because police activities at Tanke are not supervised.
