The COVID-19 pandemic despite its inimical impact has great lessons for humanity. Though very devastating and excruciating, it came with life reality we often pay less attention to as a people.
These were the words of Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, President of Royal Media Group while speaking during a KWASU/ Royal Media Group Collaboration meeting held at Svannah Hotels, Ajase Ipo Road, Ilorin, Kwara State capital, recently.
The telecommunication expert noted that one of the enduring lessons from COVID-19 lockdown is that luxuries are valueless.
Hence, he implored wealthy people in the society to invest in legacies rather than luxuries, in order to impact on lives.
“Virtually everything that we value as human beings became useless during COVID-19. It was during that period it occured to me that buying luxurious things is not the best but investing in enduring legacies is the ultimate,” Engr. Adebayo stressed.
He said, “During COVID-19 lockdown, money and assets became valueless and it seemed the world was about to come to an end. Those with fleet of cars in their garages could not drive them, batteries ran down and expensive clothing materials were also left in the wardrobes because there was no outing to wear them to.
He identified humanitarian services and corporate social responsibilities as potent tools for service to mankind.
Helping one another, charity, according to him will promote friendship, unity and tranquility and can also be means of appreciating God’s kindness by the donors.
He, however, pledged his readiness to bring all collaborative plans between KWASU and RMG into fruition in no distant time.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Professor Muhammed Mustapaha Akanbi SAN was optimistic that the working relationship between KWASU and RMG will lead to transformation of the two institutions.
Professor Akanbi particularly commended the RMG President, Engr Adebayo for believing in the collaboration with KWASU and assured him that the partnership is going to be symbiotic and further strengthen the town and gown relationship.
The meeting which was at the instance of RMG, was well attended by selected principal officers from KWASU and RMG.
