The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Hajia Sidikat Alaya made the call during an inspection visit to both sites, alongside the Project Consultants, the Contractor and other relevant Stakeholders.
The contractor handling Osi and Ilesha-Baruba Satellite Campuses of the Kwara State University (KWASU), has been called upon to speed up the level of work in order to meet up with the completion date.
Hajia Alaya, according to a statement signed by the press secretary of the state ministry of Tertiary Education, Mansurat Amuda-kannike, expressed her displeasure at the slow pace with which the contractor is handling the project at Osi, pointing out that the Ministry would now embark on a regular monitoring and inspection visit of the two sites in order to constantly checkmate their level of progress.
The Permanent Secretary commended the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for making a 60% advance payment to mobilize the contractor back to site.
She, however, directed the contractor to swing into action immediately and ensure speedy and qualitative progress on the project, so as to justify the confidence reposed in the construction company.
Similarly, at the Ilesha-Baruba Campus, Hajia Alaya noted with satisfaction some level of appreciable progress, and charged the contractor to submit a bi-monthly progress report at regular intervals to the Ministry.
Earlier, the Director of Works, KWASU, Engr. Wahab Ayinla had urged the contractor to bring the project to reality, considering expectations from the stakeholders.
Engr. Ayinla lauded the Governor for the priority attention placed on education and implored the contractor to deliver quality and standard structures on both campuses.
In his reaction, the Project Manager and lead Consultant, Architect Jimoh Faworaja said the objective of interfacing with the contractor is to emphasize the need for strict professionalism and ensure usage of quality construction materials that would stand the test of time.
He explained that the contractor must disclose the source of construction materials used, adding that all construction materials would be tested and certified to be of quality standard before installation and usage.
Arc. Faworaja, despite his displeasure with the level of work at Osi Campus, assured the Permanent Secretary that the construction team would double up its efforts at ensuring qualitative progress on the project.
Also speaking, the Director of Project, Unicontinental Construction Company, Mr. Tunji Folami assured that the two projects at Osi and Ilesha-Baruba would be delivered on scheduled.
