The Coordinator of the Center for Community Development, Kwara State University (KWASU), Mr Lawal Olohungbebe has attributed wrong choice of spouses, broken homes, social media and peer pressure as some of major factors responsible for the rising waves of moral decadence in the society.
Olohungbe made this known on Saturday (April 30, 2022) in a Ramadan lecture organized by Ma’assalam Islamic Foundation held at Munfa’at Aduke Akanbi Memorial Mosque, GRA Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Mr Olohungbebe whose lecture was titled “Moral Decadence: Causes, Effects and Solutions” said the high rate of moral decadence in the society would continue to manifest until all the contributors are carefully addressed and taken care of.
He explained that many people make mistake on the choice of wife, stressing that a wife from morally upright family will give birth to responsible and well behaved children and vice vasa.
Olohungbe, who quoted Qur’an and Hadith copiously to butress his points, said a child cannot be completely different from parent, that is why Allah in the Glorious Qur’an specifically warns a man to be conscious of where to drop his sperm in order to translate to a promising and morally upright child.
He equally attributed Mora vices among children to the lack of good home training in some families and advised all parents to be dutiful and bequeath their children with sound moral and religious knowledge.
The guest speaker also identified broken home as one of the causes of anti-social behaviour, saying that when a child lacks parental care, the end result is display of various moral vices.
He equally described peer pressure as another strong factor that contributes to spread of moral decadence in the society, pointing out that a well trained child that comes from good family background may be lured into all forms of anti social behaviour through peer pressure.
Olohungbebe also mentioned social media, flagrant display of wealth as well as inability of parents to tell their children stories of their strugglings in life as some of the ways by which moral decadence is rampart in the society.
He however called on parents to take the bull by the horns and ensure a close monitoring of their children, equip them with necessary western and Islamic education, prevent them from the exposure to acts that are capable of leading them astray in life.
Also speaking shortly after the lecture, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Professor Muhammed Mustapaha Akanbi SAN said Ma’assalam Islamic Foundation was founded by late Justice Mustapaha Akanbi as an offshoot of Mustapaha Akanbi Foundation.
The KWASU boss said the foundation since it’s inception has been saddling with responsibilities of providing social and economic services and organizing programmes that have direct positive impact on the lives of the people.

Also speaking, Dr Funsho Abdulrazaq, who represented the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, on the occasion described late Justice Mustapaha Akanbi as a respected jurist with exemplary virtues who used his health and wealth for service to God and humanity.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Coordinator of Ma’assalam Islamic Foundation, Mallam Jubril Toyin Ally said this year edition of the lecture was specifically centered on moral decadence in the society with a view to providing sloutions to the ugly trend.
Malam Ally thanked those who came from far and near to attend the event and attributed the large number of people in attendance to undiluted love to the founder of the foundation and the entire Akanbi family.
