….As IEPA holds Annual General Meeting

Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheeem (OFR) has charged members of Ilorin Emirate Professors’ Association (IEPA) to shun money worshipping whenever they retire.

Prof. AbdulRaheeem gave the charge in his lecture at the Annual General Meeting of the Ilorin Emirate Professors’ Association, held at Kwara Hotel, Ilorin.

The former Chairman of Federal Character Commission, who was as the guest speaker at the occasion, noted that despite possible financial challenges, retirement should not be all about money, just as he advised Ilorin Professors to work for their own lives during retirement.

Prof. AbdulRaheem, who harped on the importance of preparing for retirement, noted further that retirement should be about the number of people one can make happy.

He also charged the members of IEPA to look into how they would give back to the society while in retirement through active community building services.

Meanwhile, in his goodwill address, the Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University, Prof. Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN implored the body of “the highest level of intellectualism in the Emirate” to let their increasing number impact the Ilorin community positively.

On his part, Prof. Saka Nuru tasked members of IEPA to reflect on the lecture and to start preparing for a life of impact after retirement.

Earlier in his welcome address, the IEPA Chairman, Professor Sulyman Alege Kuranga said the cardinal objective of the association is to execute programmes and projects as well as to generate ideas that will move the Emirate forward and Nigeria in general

Professor Kuranga, who is the Council Chairman of Nnamdi Azikwe University, thanked members of the association for their large turnout and particularly commended other members who joined the meeting via virtual from their respective place of work across the world.

The well attended event featured the conferment of award of meritorious service on the guest lecturer, the Talba of Ilorin, Prof. S. O. AbdulRaheeem; Prof. A. A. Yusuf; and Prof. A. G. F. Alabi.

Not less than 113 members of the association participated in the meeting through both physical and virtual.
