kwara rolls out programmes to mitigate poverty among women, others

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved various programmes aimed at allevating the sufferings of women and other vulnerable groups in the State, as part of measures to mitigate poverty among the people.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Deborah Abosede Aremu disclosed this in Ilorin at the pre-council zonal workshop on 21st National Council on Women Affairs, which took place at the Marriage Registry, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Afusat Nike Ibrahim reiterated further that
government has taken effective measures on Women empowerment, to boost their income and economy of the state at large.

Mrs. Aremu stressed that measures taken among others is the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), which entails Owo Arugbo and Owo Isowo for business women across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state as well as the empowerment of 250 women of recent by the present administration.

While declaring open the workshop, Aremu reassured the women of government’s further commitments to their welfare, Children and other Vulnerable groups in the society.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs…. (name) who was represented by Mr. Alada…What? disclosed that the workshop is geared towards education of states on the policy of government, as it relates to the Ministry of Women Affairs and to guide decision making policies.

Other activities during the workshop was presentation of Federal Ministry of Women Affairs Mandate in relation to Medium Term National Development Plan, Memoranda Conceptualization and presentation as well as the Technical Session.

States in attendance were Benue, Kogi, Niger, Kwara and Nassarawa (the host States) and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
