A call has been made on those yet to return looted goods in the wake of the recent SARS protests in the state to emulate worthy example of misguided youths who have voluntarily returned similar items.
Comrade Issa Aremu, Member of National Institute and former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate gave the advise today in a statement.
The EndSARS peaceful protests in the past two weeks were infiltrated by some youths, to wreck havoc on public and private properties and infrastructures, and stealing items ranging from the most expensive to the most ridiculous.
Comrade Aremu while calling on all governments to be proactive in meeting the yearnings of the citizens said there can be no excuse for organized looting of public and private property by any aggrieved citizens.
The labour leader recalled the old saying that Ise Logun Ise : Work, An Antidote Against Poverty: “the way out of poverty is Decent jobs, productivity not stealing under the any cover”.
He said it was time governments and communities hit the ground running to reopen closed factories, open new ones and get youths out of the streets and join the process of national development. According to him despite the unfortunate turn of events, “there is an opportunity in the latest crisis for a new partnership between the citizens and government for job creation and poverty eradication”.
He commended State Governor, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, yesterday for the financial commitment to those whose enterprises were affected by criminal activities adding that it was a good measure to preserve employment for the affected.
He also hailed the inauguration of a panel of inquiry by the state in line with the recommendations of the National Economic Council to hear the grievances of the citizens who have been victims of alleged police brutality in the state.
He called on victims of police brutalities in the state to see the platform to get justice.
