“Looting in disguise of #EndSARS protests highly condemnable”

A prominent indigene of Ilorin Emirate, Engr Mohammed Kamil Dauda (FNSE) has described the Friday looting in Ilorin as highly condemnable and contradiction to what the ancient city is known for.

He said those who looted private and public properties in the name of lawful protests could only be referred to as thieves and disgrace to the society. “They have simply destroyed the livelihood of innocent people and rendered some people jobless and indebted”

Engr Dauda, in a statement he made available to newsmen, said the act of looting other people’s properties was not known as part of the norms and culture of the old Emirate.

While describing the incident as very unfortunate and uncalled for, he urged the security agencies in the state to ensure that the looters of the private and public properties are brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.

He advised the youth to shun all acts of lawlessness and destructive tendencies in the name of fighting a legitimate cause. “It’s normal and a right to carry out peaceful demonstrations to show grievances on serious national issues but it must be done peacefully”.

Engr Dauda also appealed to Governments and the people in the positions of authority to address the problem of youth restiveness and hunger in the land as a lasting solution to the present unrest across the country.

“Government should provide basic amenities such as good health/medical facilities, water, electricity, good educational system, employment opportunities among others for the populace”.

The statement urged the security agencies to respect the right and sanctity of human life while handling the situation, adding that the situation should be handled in a professional manner.

He equally enjoined parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards to prevent them from being used as agents of destruction.
