Grand-Charity Youth Development mentors youth in kwara

Nigerian youth have been advised to be focused and attach seriousness to their education to enable them achieve their full potentials of becoming great contributors to the progress and development of the country in the nearest future.


The Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Fatimoh Ahmed and her Counterpart from Sports and Youth Development, Miss Joana Kolo respectively gave the advice on Saturday (February 1st, 2020) during the official launching of ‘Grand-Charity Youth Development held at Nigerian Bar Association Hall, Ilorin, the  kwara state capital.


The Commissioners, in their separate remarks, commended the initiators of the Grand-Charity Youth Development for bringing youth together especially the secondary school children for mentorship with a pledge that Government would provide necessary support to their activities and many other NGOs in the state with lofty programmes for youth and community development.


In her welcome address, the Grand-Charity Youth Development’s Programme Director, Ambassador Haleemah Gegele said the idea of floating the initiave came to the fore following the obvious need to build the youth of today for them to become productive and useful members of the society in the future.


Gegele, who was a member of Nigerian Youth Parliament,  explained that Grand-Charity Youth Development is peopled with various individuals of like minds designed to collectively help the youth with skills, competencies and self development and to orientate the general public in the areas of girl child education, medical outreach and many other people-oriented projects and programmes in the society.


 In his remarks, the Chairman of the  occasion, Dr Audu Musa Idowu, who works for the United Nations, lauded the members of Grand-Charity Youth Development and described the initiave as a welcome development.


He explained that the NGO is an idea that started in 2019 by a group of people who came to him, saying that he bought the idea because he is always interested in anything that has to do with youth and community development.


Dr Idowu who is also a member of the Trustees of the initiave, particularly lauded the organisers for showing interest in the wellbeing of the youth, saying that the earlier people are parts of building the youth from secondary schools the better for the country’s future.


He called on other various NGOs and corporate organisations in the country to come together and join hands with the government to collectively build the future of the country’s youth.


Also speaking at the programme, Dr Mahfuouz Adedimeji of the University of Ilorin urged the country’s youth to have confidence in themselves and be ready to prepare themselves to become the agents of positive development in the country.
Also, the Coordinator of the Center for Community Development, Kwara State University, Malete,  Mr Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe advised youth to pick their role models who will serve as their moral compass they will be using to measure success in life.


Mr Kehinde Yunus Oladapo, a Senior Teacher from Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Amule, commended the organisers and requested that the mentoring programme should be extended to other students in the state for wider coverage.


Highlights of the occasion included short presentations on “Girl Child Educatio” by students of various secondary schools, just as over 20 selected secondary schools with five student representatives each  were in attendance.
