A call has gone to the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to consider Igbeti land, in Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State, as one of the host communities for the proposed Federal Universities his government is planning to establish.
The President of Omo-Bibi Igbeti Toro, Hon. Alawode Jimoh Fashina made the call while speaking with news men in Igbeti over the weekend.
While stressing the need to have a higher institution of learning in the town, the community leader gave assurance that community was ready to give maximum support to the Federal Government and any other private individuals that is ready to establish a Tertiary Institution in the town.
A cording to him, the community was ready to make available acres of land for government and private individuals who are willing and ready to establish a befitting higher institution of learning in the town.
He reteriated the commitment of his executives to work with the Oyo state government to bring meaningful development to Igbeti land.
He opined that Omo-Bibi Igbeti Toro has been making moves to woo the state government to come and make use of its arable lands for farming activities which he said if properly put into use will productively engage the youths of the town and create job opportunities for them.
He however stated that some well meaning sons and daughters of the town have already been working round the clock to bring to the town College of Tourism which he said will aid the development and exposed the town’s tourism sites to the outside world.
Alawode, who was recently re-elected for second a term of three years as the president of Omo-bibi Igbeti Toro, further stated that the focus of his administration is to invite more well to do sons and daughters of the town to come and invest in the town in order to bring development to the town and create job opportunities for its teaming youths.
While counting on the achievements of the successful administrations of the Omo-bibi Igbeti Toro, he made it known that the union has been able to secure local government council for the town from the federal government.
He went further, “we have been able to curb the act of kidnapping which was about to spread to the town from Northern part of the country.
This was achieved with the collaborative efforts of local hunters in the town, we have lobbied our politicians to construct boreholes for the town and electrification of the town as well” he said.
The community leader also stated that forefathers of the town were leaving together in peace and harmony in governing the affairs of the union which was founded about five decades ago and stressed that the present leadership of the union will not shy away from keeping to the tradition.
