…plans to scale up activities across LGAs
The Awareness Initiative for Good Living (AIGL), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) with focus on Family Planning Advocacy, has called on Local Governments administrators in Kwara state to join hands with the initiative in her frantic efforts to create a good living for all using family planning as a good platform.
The AIGL Chairman, Alhaji Ajibola Wahab, made the call on Wednesday during AIGL meeting with Heads of Department of Health (HOD) of 10 selected local government areas in the state held at NAPPMED Hall, Kulende Akerebiata road, Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
The 10 local governments represented at the meeting are Asa, Edu, Moro, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Ilorin West, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Offa, and Oyun.
He appealed to the participating HODs to roll up their sleefs and ensure that an appreciable separate budget line is created, approved and released accordingly for family planning in their respective local governments.
He explained that the fund is meant for Family Planning units in their local government areas to procure consumables that are not supplied along with commodities in order to give all reproductive age women and adolescents access to free family planning contraceptives.
Alhaji Ajibola who inted that AIGL is strongly being supported by Pathfinder International, also urged the HOD in the local governments to support the AIGL on it’s crucial crusade tilting towards family planning advocacy so as to collectively reduce maternal mortality in the state.
“AIGL believes so much in your support, with your support, Approval of Memo shall be facilitated and all necessary follow up towards the release of fund shall be accomplished without any challenges.
“Your intervention will save lives of our women from the preventable crises. Family Planning is the pillar of Ave motherhood” he said.
Ajibola explained that the procurement of the consumables would afford the women and adolescents the opportunity to access family planning contraceptives of their choice within their reach and at free of charge.
This, according to him, would drastically reduce death of our women and adolescents from child delivery complications that are resulting from either frequent child birth, too young or too old in age, and as well improve child health.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Kwara state Coordinator for Family Planning, Hajia Bilikis Ibrahim described family planning as a potent tool to prevent maternal mortality and other related health challenges.
She advised the local a to key into this advocacy exercise on family planning and ensure that local government administrators, headed by the chairmen, use their good office to promptly release monthly and annual budget for family planning consumables.
In her remarks, the state Secretary of AIGL, Hajia Bilikis Oladimeji revealed that the NGO had concluded arrangements to scale up it’s advocacy to remaining six local government areas in the state to ensure that all the 16 local government areas in the state are captured.
She advised the HODs Health to work in harmony with Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) unit of their respective council areas.
In their separate comments, the participanting HODs thanked the AIGL for the invitation and pledged their unalloyed support to the group to enable it achieve it’s set goals and objectives, which center around the creation of budget line, approval and the release of fund for family planning consumables in their local government areas.
