IIPS to partner Nigeria Police, as CP Egbetokun lauds synergy

The Kwara State Chapter of the International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS) has expressed readiness to partner with the State Police command to further reduce crimes and criminality in the state to the bearest minimum.

The group also commended the state commissioner of Police for the display of professionalism exhibited by officers and men of the command during the last general elections in Kwara State.

The Kwara State Coordinator of IIPS, Pastor Makanjuola Bode Peter gave these assurances and commendation on Thursday during a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police in his office in Ilorin.

Makanjuola, who is a fellow of the institute, said, ” before 2019 General Elections, the whole world thought there would be breakdown of law and order in Kwara State, well, their thought might be as a result of one reason or the other known to them.

“We are even aware that some disgruntled elements said your posting to Kwara Command was purposely to rig election for a particular party which our institute disputed then that you are a seasoned police officer and not a politician”.

He said part of the reasons for the visit was to partner with police on the need to further reduce crime by providing useful information to police, and to assist in the training and retraining of it officers and men through the institute.

“We are here to partner with you to make officers and men of your command become one of the first security professional institutes in Nigeria which a lots of officers and men in the military, para military and security personnel in corporate organisations have enjoined in Kwara State since six years ago” he said

He noted, “the physical security challenges facing this country is not the problem of Nigeria Police, but the problem of every citizen of this country who is not security conscious and does not have s basic security knowledge.

“Our institute will partner with police by embarking on public enlightenment and sensitization on the need for all to be always watchful, vigilant and conscious of strange, wrong things or happening around them, report appropriately to police in order for us to have a safer environment in this state”.

Responding, the State Police Commissioner, CP Kayode Egbetokun appreciated members of the International Institute of Professional Security for their visit.

The Commissioner informed that the visit by the IIPS members across the State would bring a robust relationship between the State Command of the Police and IIPS.

This is the first time an organisation would volunteer itself to partner police. This is an indication that all of you in the organisation are professionals and people with consciousness and concerned with security of their environment” he said.

CP Egbetokun, who lauded the good initiative of the IIPS, pledged that more of his staff would join the association as soon as possible so as to collectively render the humanitarian service to the public.

Egbetokun who expressed joy and happiness for the readiness of the IIPS to form a synergy with Nigerian Police, and promised that the command would do everything possible to always support the body to attain win-win situation.

The Police Commissioner told the group that he is already a member of the institute, even as he assured that more police officers and men would join the group in the State.

Among members of the association in attendance were, Deputy Coordinator of the association, Mr Jimoh-Jubril Tokunbo, Secretary of the association, Gabriel Oyinloye among others.
