BAGYUM marks end of summer lesson

…As govt advised to improve welfare of teachers

 

Nigerian Government has been called upon to attach utmost priority to the welfare of teachers and create an enabling environment in all schools so as to make teaching and learning more conducive and attractive.

The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin, Mr Musa Alagbede made the call at the weekend during the closing ceremony of Balogun Gambari Youth Movement (BAGYUM) summer programme held at Karuma primary school, Ilorin.

Alagbede also called on parents and guidians to give their children and wards the liberty to choose profession of their choice and refrain from habit of imposing a course on their them.

Mr Alagbede who spoke on the topic “Factors Affecting Career Choice among Secondary School Students” as the guest speaker on the occasion, urged the parents to be meticulous in the choice of career of their children for them to excel in their chosen careers.

He mentioned parents, school environment, ecinomic situation, and peer influence as some of the factors responsible for career choice among secondary schools students.

In his address at the event, a member representing Ilorin East/ South Federal Constituency, Honourable Abdulganiyu Cook Olododo said he had spent the sum of N2 million to support 10 community based and Non-Governmental summer school programmes that fall within the purview of his Constituency.

Olodod who spoke through the former Chairman of Ilorin East local government at the event, Alhaji Babatunde Sa’ad, disclosed that 18 students of BAGYUM summer lesson would be presented with scholarships.

He said the idea was to contribute his quota towards the progress of education and development of the community he was representing.

Olododo therefore urged parents to always encourage their children to be serious with their education, saying that sound and qualitative ducation is the bedrock of development in any society.

In his welcome address, the President of Balogun Gambari Youth Movement (BAGYUM), Mallam Sulaiman Olayinka Sakariyah thanked God for the successful completion of this year edition of smmer programme.

Sakariyah described BAGYUM summer programme as a long standing annual event that has produced many people in the area, saying that himself as the president of the movement was once a student of the summer class.

He particularly thanked Alhaji Cook Olododo, Mrs Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu and other well meaning people in the state for supporting the programme in cash and kind.

In his address, the chairman of education committee, Mr Bahir Mohammad Sani thanked God for the smooth running of this edition of the Programme and commended all the tutors for their selfless service rendered towards moving the community forward.

The event was attended by former Presidents of BAGYUM, Mallam Sulaiman Idris and Mallam Garba Sefura. Other personalities in attendance included the DPM of Moro local government, Alhaji Oba Monsankore among others.
