Join hands with govt to banish poverty, unemployment- Aremu advises Kwarans workers

A Member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Aremu mni, has called all Kwarans to be helpful and supportive to the incoming administration in the state and display sprit of unprecedented solidarity and partnership to banish poverty, create mass decent jobs and ensure security of lives and properties in the new dispensation.

Comrade Aremu made the call on Wednesday (May 1, 2019) in his congratulatory message to kwaran workers over the successful celebration of 2019 May Day and successful conclusion of the 12th State Delegates’ Congress which led to the emergence of Comrade Issa Ore as the newly elected Chairman of the state NLC in kwara state.

Aremu who was the Labour Party Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2019 election, observed that this year’s May Day assumed special importance as it marked 100 years anniversary of International Labour Organization (ILO) and the 20th year anniversary of uninterrupted Democratic process in Nigeria.

Comrade Aremu who is also the Vice President of IndustriALL global union based in Geneva, Switzerland, urged workers world wide to rededicate the struggle against income poverty, corruption, for democracy and social justice.

The labour leader who is also a member of the 80- person Transition Committee (TC) inaugurated by the kwara state Governor elect, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq congratulated all Kwarans for historic peaceful and fair election which terminated what he called almost two decades of PDP dictatorship and bad governance in Kwara state.

He said the theme of this year’s May Day celebration jointly organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) which is “Another 100 Years of Struggle for Jobs, Dignity and Social Justice in Nigeria” is worthwhile and very apt.

Comerade Aremu observed that the point cannot be overstated that Kwara State workers suffered untold hardship during the tenure of the outgoing government in the State through delayed and non payment of salaries.

He therefore urged newly inaugurated state Council of the NLC to partner with the new administration to usher in the desired change and improve the working and living conditions of workers and all those working and living in Kwara State.

“I urge you all to support the incoming government through improved productivity and service delivery with complementary greater commitment to defense of the rights of workers in Kwara State.” he admonished.
