The Labour Party Governorship candidate in Kwara state Comrade Issa Aremu mni, has donated a block of toilet for Aiyegun Junior Secondary School, Eyenkorin, in Asa local government area of the state.
The project came into being following a pledge made by Comrade Aremu during the Inter-School Sience Competition held at Apata Ajele Secondary School, where the female students of Aiyegun Secondary School came second.
The competition was organised for selected Secondary Schools in the area
by an NGO in collaboration with some British volunteers.
Prior to the donation of the toilet, the staff and students of Aiyegun Secondary school had been engaging in a ‘Short-Put’ or ‘Attack’ , a situation that is very babaric, appalling and very repugnant in the present 21st century.
Speaking in the school premises shortly before the commissoing of the toilet, Comrade Aremu said the rationale behind the donation of the toilet was to provide a serene and hygienic environment for both teachers and students of the college.
He said it was morally repugnant and socially unacceptable in this present era for government to build a school without adequate consideration for toilet facikitu and other basic amenities like power and water, saying that if poorer Kwara could provide all these basic necessities of life in schools in those days, the richer Kwara has no excuse than to do better than it’s predecessors.
Aremu, who recalled with nostalgia how he enjoyed his school days at Ilorin Grammar School (IGS), said the gesture was not political but a calculated attempt to make teaching and learning more conducive for both teachers and students of the school.
The Magaji of Apata Aiyegun, Mallam Issa Ilhasu who was very happy with the gesture, said the community would remain ever grateful to Comrade Aremu for living by his words.
According to him, the community and the school management did not take Comrade serious when he first made the pledge because many people had come, made some pledges but reneged their promises.
Ilhasu said he was suprised by Comrade Aremu’s uncommon benevolence, adding that he was the first philantropist to come to the aid of the school by a way of providing it with what the school was actually suffering from.
The Principal of the school, Mallam Sulaiman Toyi Kelani thanked the donor for being sensetive to the plight of the staff and students of the school, saying that the gesture will be an indelible mark that will be difficult to be erased in the minds of the users and people of the area in general.
“During the last Inter-School Science Competition at Apata Ajele, you promised to provide a toilet facility for our female students for coming second in the competition. We wish to express our profound gratitude, sir, to you for turning your promise into reality. May Allah, the Almighty, reward you and your team abundantly” the Principal prayed.
The Senior Prefect of the school and the Head Girl, Abdulganiyu Faruq and Abdulrahaman Rukoyat respectively thanked the donor for remembering their school for a project they all desired.
Giving a vote of thanks on behalf of the students, Daniel Ilaisa, described the gesture as a step in a right direction and pledged that the toilet will be put to a good use to enable it serve the purpose it was given.
