The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has said there is no iota of truth in the news making around that the National President of the IEDPU, Ambassador Abdulazeez Sheik resigned over the fracas of last Tuesday at the Emir’s Palace.
The union said the National President exit from that position was not unconnected with the appointed given to him by the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki in the National Assembly Service Commission on Monday, 17th December, 2018.
The IEDPU in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Toyin Imam, and made available to newsmen in Ilorin therefore called on members of the public to disregard the news, describing the report as baseless, untrue and misleading.
According to the statement, “Two days afterwards, the National President indicated his intention to resign his appointment with the IEDPU in view of his appointment but he was prevailed upon by the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari and other executives to stay on considering the fact that the National Convention of the IEDPU was too close. He graciously obliged us”.
The statement added his resignation was therefore not as a result of the unfortunate incidence that happened at the convention but for the reason above stated.
“We find the trending news unfortunate and in clear bad taste. A man of the calibre of Amb Abdulazeez does not deserve any such concocted news.
“It is important to urge political actors to desist from carrying fake news that are capable of maligning important personalities who may not be able to defend themselves” .
“The IEDPU is a non-partisan, independent social cultural association. We refuse the temptations to be dragged into the murky waters of politics” it added.
