Two governorship aspirants on the Platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Honourable Mashood Mustapha and Mallam Salihu Mustapha have petitioned the National Working Committee of the party over their purported disqualification from the party primary while the voting was ongoing.
They described the radio announcement for their purported disqualification as a false and a grand plan ochestrated by some members of the party in the state to dislodge them from the race.
In their separate press conference on Saturday night in Ilorin, Mashood Mustapha asked the party to disqualify Saturday primary in the state and reschedule another date for the primary or declare him winner of the primary, saying that he had already been leading before a concorted radio announcement that misled his teeming supporters was made.
He said there was neither official commnication nor offial letter to him from leadership of the party in the state to that effect before a misleading radio was made and described the act as a gross act of injustice.
Mustapha said he was founding member of the APC since 2014 as at the time he was a member of House of Representatives, saying that it is unfair to be treated like this by the party he is serving diligently.
” I am here to state that the APC primary election conducted today is an abuse of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC). I hereby, call for cancellation of the election and conduct of a fresh primary election because the rumour of disqualification has caused confusion and apathy amongst our supporters across the 193 wards in Kwara state” he said.
In his separate address, another aspirant, Mallam Salihu Mustapha who also told the same story of how the fake radio announcement caused confussion during the primary, described the act as a gross misconduct and a calculated attempt to disenfranchise him and his teeming supporters.
Reacting to the allegation that he was working for Senator Bukola Saraki, Salihu Mustapha vehemently denied the allegation saying that though Saraki met him in APC, there is no relationship between him and Saraki after his deffection to PDP, adding that the APC that joined them together had separated them.
” Wth my age and political experience, it is absurd for people to think I cannot decide on my own or working for Saraki” he said.
He called for the councilation of the election to give room for a fresh primary in the state.
