Slug – 2019 – Group Kicks Against Imposition of Abdulrasaq as Kwara APC Guber Candidate-By Hammed Shittu in Ilorin
A group, Kwara Unity Elders Forum led by the former governor of Kwara state, Chief Cornelius Adebayo has strongly condemned the purported imposition of a govenrorship aspirant, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq by the National leadership of All Progressives Congress(APC) in the next year general election.
The group described the ongoing governorship primary of the APC as a window dressing activities charade that was allegedly meant to impose an aspirant on the members of the party in the state.
Speaking onbehalf of the group in Ilorin on Saturday, the coordinator of the group, Dr. Saliu Ajia said that, “the alleged imposed candidate, Alhaji Abdulrasaq lacked capacity and exposures to win the next year governorship election in the state”¿.
According him, “It is disheartening to note that, the national leadership of our party, APC can allegedly cocerce our members to queue behind an aspirant that cannot win any elections in Kwara state”.
He said that, “Some aspirants have been cocerced to step down for Alhaji Abdulrasaq which is against the tenet of democratic norms.
“We are working tirelessly to free our state from the perceived bondage that we had been battling with for over 40 years now but the national leadership of our party, APC is trying to add to the sufferings and we will not accept such alleged imposition in our state.
“We have shortlisted two suitable and sellable aspirants, Mr. Hakeem Lawal and Alhaji Lukman Mustapha upon which one of them should emerged as our candidate but we are surprised that our national leadership of APC had mandated the national officers that would conduct the primary to pave way for Alhaji Abdulrasaq to emerge as the APC governorship candidate in Kwara.
“I want to say that, the group and other group called Kwara Rescue Movement would not be part of such arrangement and it must be reversed without further delay and if not we will move out of APC because APC is not the only party in Nigeria”
He therefore described the alleged imposition as an act of endangering the nations democracy, which should not be allowed to stand.
He also asked the supporters to remain calm while they await further activies.
