A Non-Partisan youth organisation whose membership is drawn across the geopolitical segment of Kwara North under the aegis of “Coalition of Kwara North Groups” has strongly demanded for gubernatorial ticket for aspirants from the zone irrespective of political affiliation come 2019 elections.
The groups said their demands were strongly supported by all the traditional rulers, elders, women and youths across the five local government areas of Moro, Kaiama, Edu, Patigi and Baruten that made up the Kwara North.
The group in a press conference, jointly addressed by Comrade Kolo Majin Jerry and Dr Mohammed Manzuma, held in Ilorin on Thursday, sounded a note of warning that the region would boycott the governorship election if their demands are taken for granted.
The group members who explained that Kwara stands on a tripod having been sub-divided in to three senatorial districts, said the third leg of the state is Kwara North after the Kwara Central and the Kwara South.
They affirmed that no governorship aspirant from kwara Central irrespective of party affiliation will be granted access to campaign in the whole length and breadth of Kwara North axis if their demands fall into deaf hears.
They argued that it is morally repognant and against the principles of fairness and justice that the Northern Kwara has not been considered for governorship position since inception of democracy in 1999.
The group explained that Kwara Central has run the affairs of the state from 1999 to 2011while the kwara South took over the mantle of the state’s leadership from 2011 till date, saying that going by the ethics of natural justice, fairness, and equity power must shift to Kwara North come 2011.
According to the groups “All political party platforms should have as their flagbearers only candidates of Kwara North extraction”.
